 · This created the illusion that the Beatles wrote all their own material (since only Meredith Willson's "Till There Was You" was a non-original), an illusion dispelled by the necessarily cover-heavy The Beatles' Second Album. So, in many ways, Meet the Beatles! distilled what was best about the band: original material from Lennon, Paul McCartney.

"Till There Was You" was recorded by the Beatles in and released on their second album With the Beatles () (United Kingdom) and Meet the Beatles! () (United States). It was the only song from a Broadway show released by the band.

The latter version was recorded when the Beatles played at the Royal Variety Performance; because the album was cut so that live numbers began with the actual song, John Lennon's famous request that those in the royal box "rattle your jewellery" to "Twist and Shout" is in fact included on the "Till There Was You.
